My new progressivism

Labels: Personal

I’ve actually been progressing in regards to things other than school. I’ve been putting off my Eagle Project for too many years now. So this weekend, I met with someone at the Educational State Forest in Clayton, NC, and I’ve started to make some progress on a feasible project. I’ll post the details here later, once it’s approved. I’ll try to recruit help from anyone I can contact—it will be a labor-intensive project!

Now I need to get the project approved. Once it’s approved, I can go ahead and try to organize the gory details of actually getting it done. But I spent tonight working on paperwork and other things that I need to get done.

I was feeling progressive (bad US History pun…), so I decided to post an entry about it here. Not to mention any upcoming exams (cough). Have a nice day!

Is school almost over?

Labels: Personal

Ah yes. I know we’re all waiting for school to be over, albeit to different degrees, I’m sure. But for us juniors, it is only a couple short weeks before our year is essentially over. Maybe it’s time to take a few moments and reflect on the year.

OK. I started this year going at all of my classes with an attitude that might be described as “enthusiastic.” Now the end of the year is here, and as we all feared at the beginning, we’re all burned out—including me. My attitude is more aptly described in one word: “meh.” That’s just it—I don’t really care anymore. This is the tragedy of school in a way; I’ve gone from a zealous student to one who could hardly care less. In some ways, this is a more modern tragedy.

“High-stakes testing makes for a love of learning.” Department of Education

Well, that seems to be their philosophy.

Anyway, I’d like to hear people’s opinions on the “is school almost over?” question. I know it seems like it for juniors, and I would presume is almost definitely so for seniors. What about freshmen and sophomores? I’m just looking for opinions. Have fun!

NOTE: This is my first update in a VERY long time, so that’s an improvement.
